What are the chances of them actually finding any aluminium ?
It must be remote and not economically worthwhile. -

They must sustain injuries!
How can they work walking about on broken glass?
Are they indeed looking for aluminium?
I'm shocked! -

Yes. Even they dont have gloves and there is every chance that they slip.

they also look so young.....is the small amount of aluminium worth this?....what alternatives are there for such young girls??

There are very few livelihood options particularly for illiterate and marginalised young women. But the politicians are busy in protecting morality (?) in the society to win over growing middle class rather then addressing such issues.

its awful - but what alternatives are there when we are all so obsessed by low prices for everything? Low price means someone somewhere is being exploited.
I have just signed up to get milk delivered from a local farm - its more expensive than the supermarket, but its organic, free range, local, part of the community and fabric of the countryside etc. Try saying that at your tesco's standard milk.
Maybe if we all did that a bit more for other things in life, then there would be no need for girls sifting through broken glass, or stitching nike trainers for $1 a month.-

You are absolutely right. I am also glad about your decision to buy milk from local farm.
However even the when we pay more for certain things it is not necessary that the higher amount we pay go in the pockets of labourers or farmers. Especially in India farmers sell their poduce at very low cost and at the end of year they cannot afoord to purchase the same.
This is just addition but I must say the point you have raised is valid and provide an for individual who do not want to be party to exploitation.
