In the most parts of rural india girl children are aborted in huge numbers as everyone wants boy child only. This has led to imbalance in the male-female ratio dramatically. Now some of its effects are surfacing.
They are:
1. More unmarried men in society
2. Men have to buy brides from poor regions
3. Increase in the number of commercial sex workers to meet growing demand of unmarried older menfolk

hallo varshakale I think in our country such phenomena are not exisitng: in the traditional italian culture the mathers like to have male children, but now we have a changement of mentality. the science do possible to determinate the sex of the future child, but people don't like make anything with futures childrens. do You speak italian, Varshakale?

  No I cant speak Italian but I have lot of respect towards Italy because of its role in rennaissance and also cos now our de-facto prime minister Sonia Gandhi also originate from this country.

I believe someone in germany think and act like this, but this is not a german phenomena.
i am italian too but living in germany, and i think like bortocal that something like this does not really exist in italy.
It´s a very sad and little view of life to think like this. without women kann no man exist and no child will be born.
and the sexual commerce will grow, with more AIDS risk and and and...

      My son is 17 now and he is studying in XII th. It would be quite nice if you help him as he need it lot of time, once he also e-mailed one of my friend who lives in Canada but know German language as her mother is German.

Hi Varshakale,

Lee here. Nothing like this really exists in the UK. There are cases where people do want to abort babies because they would have preferred one of the other sex, but this is rare.
We do have a worrying trend for people wanting to choose to abort their babies if they are not 100% perfect genetically, though, which really freaks me out as that's against human nature. I just feel it's not right to take a life before it's begun simply because you feel the baby may have a genetic defect, no matter how insignificant. What do you think of this?

It sounds like things are pretty bad in India though...especially the rise in the sex trade to accommodate unmarried men..worrying.

Yes ICS it is really worrying. I am not totally against abortion as India is vastly over populated country and many times women are forced to conceive just due to certain beliefs, but I am aginst such inhuman and self destructive practices.

My country is diferent, i think that this world is a unjust world( i am sorry, but..... my english isn't very good).
The problem is the politic's mens, they govern, direct,... all the thinks, and is very dificult for us do anything. i am furius for the situation of your country and the more, that have the same position.

I agree with ICS, in the UK people aren't fussy about with sex the child is. There are a few minorities which do discriminate, but the UK doesn't have a history of this kind of discrimination. It is increasingly having people choose according to handicaps such as the child having cerebal palsy.

Actually, I'm not sure where my thoughts are on this (in terms of desease). If the child is destined to have an appauling existance of pain and suffering then perhaps it is best to abort the child (for both the childs sake and the parents). If however the child has a relatively minor problem then I'd disagree with abortion.

The problem I have in thinking about this is deciding where that line is between a major or a minor problem. Obviously I disagree with people aborting children in favour of gender.

  These abortions are purely done on the basis of gender and thats why it has destroyed the balance of sex ratio.

    I should've made my position clearer I think, I'm totally against aborting for reasons of gender discrimination. It's plainly self defeating and will inevitably lead to huge social issues in the future.
    
    I watched a programme about China last night, it seems that they are suffering from a similar problem. They also have the dowry system which has led to female featus' being aborted.

Hello-
New York City, USA here. In America children are almost never aborted for reasons of gender. I don't believe I have ever heard of one case so, it saddens me that this condition exists in your country.
In America, abortion is chosen out of regret for lack of responsibility or cases of rape,incest and sometimes if the child would be born with serious defects.
The larger responsiblity should lie on the shoulders of education.We as individuals,our governements and schools should teach us responsibility and kindness. In America abortion is a hotly debated topic for reasons of religion. The "religious right" wants to make it illegal because they feel it is against God's will and the others want it to stay a woman's choice. I believe that women are capable of making this decision on their own if properly educated on all sides of the issue. (sorry for the long comment)

In my country are a lot of children aborted but people doesn t talk about that and many unmarried people , i think thats very comun in ours days, its too sad !!!
